Classic Chinese Vegetable dish, Chinese Broccoli drizzled with Garlic Flavoured Oyster Sauce, is super quick and easy to make it by yourself at home.
Chinese Broccoli or Gai Lan is the most common vegetable that we have in Chinese restaurant. Usually, the restaurant will serve Chinese Broccoli either with oyster sauce or plain garlic stir fry. I love both style of cooking, but my favorite is still chinese broccoli with oyster sauce.
The oil will first be infused with garlic and shallot, before mixing it with oyster sauce. This will add extra fragrance to the oyster sauce. Besides that, I love the sweetness of the oyster sauce pairing together with green chinese broccoli. Too bad that I don’t make this too often at home. I only make it sometimes when I spot beautiful Chinese Broccoli or Gai Lan in the market.
Besides that, the sweetness in oyster sauce is too much for Dydy. As I mentioned before, he still learning to adapt to Chinese cooking where we have sweetness in our food. For him, he can only eat sweetness in dessert. Other dish, need to be savoury and spicy. It takes time for him to learn how to enjoy this delicious chinese broccoli with oyster sauce. He did make some effort in eating few branch of chinese broccoli though. I’m so proud of him in eating it while I know he won’t like it.
I did consider adding some bird eye chilli in the oyster sauce. But, thinking about it again, the reason I love this chinese broccoli with oyster sauce dish is because of the sweetness in the sauce. I feel like the sweetness make the green chinese broccoli taste less bitter and more edible. That’s why, adding the spiciness in the sauce, seems too strange.
